A very merry Lush-mas: Goddess

Technically speaking this is not a Christmas bath bomb so I am being a teeny tiny bit naughty sneaking it in here. HOWEVER it is new, it is fantastic and it is 100% worth you running out your front door to your local Lush store to pick one of these up. After you’ve finished reading this post obvs.

I was blown away with the smell of this bath bomb which was a combination of sandalwood and jasmine, however and I could have sworn I could smell lavender in there as well when it first began to fizz after hitting the water.

The creamy lilac colouring was truly magical as well as adding to the calming effect that the fragrance was already having on my mood. I have also seen that this bath bomb has a lot of silver lustre which I could imagine as the bath bomb itself before I placed it in the bath was sparkling on its own, however I went into the bath on a Friday afternoon with just the December light coming through my window and a few candles I had dotted about, so to me the water was this fantastic matt lavender colour.

So would I buy this again? Yes I would! It was everything I needed after a stressful six days working in the crazy christmas retail chaos.

A Very Merry Lush-mas: Perle De Sel

This was the second bath bomb I used from this years Christmas line up from Lush and it was beautiful. The water that this product left was honestly beyond breathtaking! In a strange-sounding way it looked as if I was wrapped in beautiful expensive satin when I looked down into the water, like I say I know that sounds beyond mad but seriously you need to grab this bath bomb and experience it for yourself!

Scent wise, Perle De Sel had a floral and slightly musky fragrance but not in a heavy or overpowering way. No in fact it was quite the opposite and it was just a nice smelling bath and reminded me greatly of the snow cake soap lush released last christmas but sadly did not re-release this season.

All in all this bath screamed luxury from the delicate fragrance to the way the fine glitter particles swirled around my body and the calming colour of the water. Would I buy again? Yes! I think I need to stock up on these to get me through the rough days of 2019!

A Very Merry Lush-mas: Shoot for the Stars

Hello and welcome to the first ever A Very Merry Lush-mas, which is basically just an excuse I have given myself to go out and buy six of this years festive bath bombs from Lush without feeling guilty for spending money on myself and not presents for other people. It’s wonderful how much guilt you can rid yourself of by just saying ‘ooohh I know, I’ll write a blog post about it’!

Over the next six days I will be posting about a different bath bomb from the Lush 2018 Christmas range and writing a tiny review. So to kick-start the week off I thought I would write about a bath bomb that always re-appears at this time of the year and it is one of my favourite products from Lush’s range, Shoot for the Stars.

This bath bomb ticks all the boxes. You get spectacular bath art, vivid blue moisturising bath water and a scent that lasts on your skin and around the house for hours after you pull the plug. It is also from the Honey, I washed the kids scent family so you know that it is going to smell mouth-watering just from reading the ingredients list on Lush’s website.

This is most certainly one of the only bath bombs I look forward to all year around and get excited about when I see it is back listed as being back in stock on Lush’s website. Would I buy again? Yes, Yes and Yes!!

Scream Queens

Night two of my bath bomb series is another product from The Rage Company and this post is going to be heavy with images as I don’t think I can explain with words the fantastically beautiful bath art this bomb created.

The bath bomb I used was called B-Movie Scream Queen and looked quite creepy. Not one tiny little detail was overlooked and the little face even had blood coming from its nose, mouth and forehead. In the description of this product it did pre-warn me that this bath bomb had been pressed so hard it may not actually float, so I was pleasantly surprised that mine had no issues at all with staying above the water on its own.

The fragrance of this bath bomb was also incredible! It smells exactly like the foam banana sweets you get in your mix up which paired wonderfully with The Body Shop banana shower gel and body yoghurt I already had in the house. After the top layer had dissolved and give off a thick yellow foam into my bath I finally hit the electric blue centre that is hidden in the middle of this bath bomb.

After the bath bomb had stopped fizzing and had completely disappeared I swirled the waters and found the most spectacular emerald green waters hidden underneath. There was no lusture like there had been with the Spellbound bath bomb the night before, however this didn’t make the water any less magical. I have tried to capture the amazing rich green colour of the water in the photo below however it doesn’t look anywhere near as bright as it was in real life.

Now will I buy this bath bomb again? Yes! I am honestly blown away with the quality of The Rage Company’s products if truth be told and I will definitely be purchasing from this amazing indie shop again in the near future!

Autumn, Beauty

Hello, hello, hello and welcome to the first day of my 2018 bath bomb series! You may recall I did something similar this time last year, and if truth be told I really enjoyed that little mini series! So I thought why not try it again? I’ve mixed it up this year and instead of using Lush products I opted for some indie sellers on Etsy instead, and where I say some I actually mean two as I ended up obsessed with pretty much all of The Rage Company’s products.

So based on that I decided to kick-start this weeks series off with the first bath bomb I used from The Rage Company that is called Spellbound. This beautiful spiced plum scented bath bomb was amazing and the bath bomb itself was actually bigger than my hand and was grey in colour with a gold metallic pentagon on top.

I mean just look at that!

Now, after slowly lowering Spellbound into the bath it seemed to sink straight away before re-emerging seconds later fizzing away quickly creating a beautiful rich plum coloured water and releasing a very festive and warm cinnamon fragrance which also had subtle sweet undertones to it which lingered on my skin and in the air for a very long time afterwards.

Now at first this just seemed like your regular bath bomb doing its usual thing, however after Spellbound was around halfway through its spectacular show it started to speed up fizzing away and give off the illusion of a witches caldron bubbling away, after it finished doing this I noticed that their was a spectacular amount of gold lustre floating through my bath water. This lustre was so beautiful I actually think it rivals and beats that of its main stream rivals.

I later realised that this bath bomb contains both olive oil and coconut oil which would explain why my skin felt beautifully soft after I left the bath. I even seemed to be glowing slightly which I imagine has something to do with the oils found within this bath bomb and the spectacular shimmer that I was mesmerized by. It was a wonderful start to my week full of baths and will definitely be a bath bomb that I will be purchasing again as soon as it is back in stock!

Anastasia Beverly Hills – Subculture Palette

T.K.Max has never been a place where I can find hidden gems. I know many people who can venture in and leave with lots of little treasures and find wonderful items and then there is me, whenever I pay a visit I always seem to leave empty-handed. However! The other week my luck changed when I wondered in for a quick look and I stumbled upon the Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture palette!

The packaging of the palette had no information about what shades or colours could be found inside its contents so I had a sneaky little look and instantly fell in love with the most perfect autumnal palette I have ever stumbled across.

Colours such as Edge, New Wave, All Star and Adorn scream Autumn and I feel the shades such as Axis, Rowdy, Untamed and Electric will carry you into the Festive season beautifully!

Another selling point for this palette to me personally was how many matte shades are found inside, with 11 of the 14 shades being just that. I find that recently a lot of brands seem to go big on the amount of shimmer contained in a pallet and nobody thinks about the more wearable matte colours anymore which is needed to create a good base.

So far I have used all three shimmer shades of Cube, Adorn and Electric all which are beautiful (especially the latter) alongside Dawn, Mercury and Untamed. All of these colours are incredibly pigmented and seem to blend well which I was a little worried about if truth be told. The only downside is there seems to be a lot of fallout when I swirl my brush around in the pan but I can live with that in all honesty.

I am mega excited to use the colours Edge which is a perfect mustard colour and highly pigmented when I swatched it on to my arm, Roxy which again was highly pigmented and a beautiful warm peach colour, New wave which is another yellow shade but this one is more orangey in tone and All Star which is a beautiful berry red and I think it will pair beautifully with Mercury which is a warm tone gray colour.

I can not wait to see what wonderful grunge like looks I can create with this palette over the upcoming months and in the lead up to spring / summer next year. Let me know if you have this palette and what your favourite shade combinations are.

Lush: Rudolph Jelly Face Mask

There is no denying that I don’t love a good face mask, and Lush do some of the best face masks on the market. I have previously reviewed both their Bunny Moon and The Birth of Venus masks and I found them both to be fantastic so I was quite excited when I discovered Lush had added a new jelly face mask to their festive range.

This new face mask is named Rudolph and contains orange and cocoa powder to both help tone and brighten your complexion. Also the combination of these ingredients mean that this mask smells exactly like a Terry’s chocolate orange but not in a overpowering sickly way.

I found the texture of this mask is similar to the Bunny Moon mask as it has a very creamy consistency once it is worked into a paste. Due to its smooth texture I found that it glides onto my skin quickly and with minimum effort meaning you can apply this mask within seconds with no fuss whatsoever.  I have been leaving the Rudolph facemask on for around 20 minutes and I have been pleasantly surprised on both occasions with how the mask / my skin doesn’t have that horrible tight feeling that many masks cause after they have dried out. Nope, I am still able to move my facial features when wearing this facemask without feeling like my face is turning to stone.

Once I come to remove the Rudolph facemask I have noticed it tends to dry a little bit like liquid latex and I am able to peel parts of the facemask off my face. It is an oddly satisfying feeling and I don’t feel as if I am damaging my skin in doing so. However, if the idea of peeling a mask off your face is not appealing then don’t worry, I have also found that you can remove this mask with some warm water and a face cloth.

After removing Rudolph my skin does look brighter and feels both firmer and smoother. Also, I have noticed that the following day when applying my makeup my foundation glides on and stays in place better throughout the day.

Crunch time though, will I buy this face mask again? Yes, yes and another yes! I am actually slightly devastated that this face mask is going to be an exclusive product and not part of the main line as I feel this is the best Lush face mask I have used to date, and you know I have tried out quite a few! Fingers crossed it will freeze well as I feel come the end of 2018 I will have stockpiled enough tubs of this face mask to last a fair few years!

Current Skincare Routine

Settle down with your favourite beverage and slice of cake because today post is a bit of a long one, but first up I feel I need to write a disclaimer. I haven’t really got the foggiest when it comes to skin care products, I don’t get this whole serum thing nor do I own thousands of products. I have owned a fair few products over the years that don’t agree with my dehydrated combination skin at all and cause acne breakouts that would rival any teenager. In fact I feel my skin often forgets I am now 28 and not 14 years old and it constantly throws acne my way on the daily, so much so that I was once told by a Clinique employee that my skin was in such a mess their products would never work and I should probably go see a doctor. I went home and cried.

However, recently my skin has been playing ball and has cleared up dramatically which I think is partly due to the skin care products I am currently using as well as cutting out dairy from my diet. So what am I using? Here we go.

Morning Routine

On a morning I have been using The Body Shops Vitamin E gentle face wash followed up with both the Hydrating Toner and the moisturizer Cream from the same range. Since I have been using these three products from the Vitamin E range I have noticed the redness in my face has dramatically improved! Also the moisturizer is both lightweight and fast absorbing which is wonderful and also leaves a non greasy / shiny base meaning that it is the perfect thing to apply to my face before I apply my makeup in the morning.

Furthermore, before I apply my Kat Von D Lock it foundation I give my face a quick spray with the PIXI makeup Fixing Mist which contains both rose-water and green tea. This is quite a pricey product at £16 however I do find that it helps to hydrate my skin and stops the foundation from being sucked into any areas of dry skin that I may have. Also I am barely through 1/3 of the bottle after 4 months so it does seem worth the money in the long run.

Tada! Morning routine is done!

Night Time Routine

My night-time routine has a few more products thrown in for good measure, as you would expect. I swear by Lush’s Ultrabland cleanser and I use this every night as a makeup remover as soon as I get home. I just gently massage a small amount of this all over my face (I end up looking slightly like coco the clown as all my foundation, eyeshadow and lipstick mix together) and then use a warm damp cloth to remove all traces of makeup from my face. The best part of this product is that due to the almond oil, rose-water, beeswax and honey that is found in the ingredients list, this cleanser won’t strip your skin of its natural oils and defences but will remove all traces of make up! Fantastic!

After removing my makeup I switch up my toner and use PIXIs Glow Tonic which removes dead skin cells and leaves my skin looking healthier. It also contains no alcohol so this toner doesn’t dry my skin out or aggravate it like other toners have done in the past and I have also noticed a visible reduction in the size of my pores since using this product.

This is where my routine changes on a night depending on how my skin is looking and feeling. 9 time out of 10 I tend to just go straight for my No7 Protect and Intense Advanced night cream which is quite a thick moisturizing cream and it feels incredibly hydrating on my skin.

If however my skin is feeling really parched and is looking very dull I will pop on another No7 product. This one is the Heavenly Hydration Moisture mask which is a combination of a gel / cream that is meant to hydrate, lift and brighten your skin. I very rarely use this product as a mask though and instead I just apply a thin layer to my face before I go to bed and I always wake up the next day with healthier, plumper happier skin. What more do you need?

(I did get this mask in a christmas gift set a while back and I think it has now been discontinued and replaced with No7 Instant Results Nourishing Hydration Mask).

And that is that! Somehow this little routine I have had for the past two months has dramatically changed the appearance in my skin, leaving it softer, more toned and healthy looking and a lot less angry red with crazy acne. I am not sure if this post will help anyone find new products or help with your skin needs but here it is in any way! Please let me know what your holy grail skin care product is to see if I can find some more gems to add to my collection.

Empties: Summer 2018

So here is a new little thing I thought I would do.  Rather than post my monthly empties or monthly favourites I thought I would just start a new series where I post what products I have used up through the previous season and how much I liked or disliked them. I know, the clue is in the title, however it may be a long post so grab your favourite drink some snacks and get settled cos here we go.

Skin care

First up I want to talk about the Pixxi Skintreats Glow Tonic and Rose Tonic that I discovered this season. Both of the bottles I have used up are the 100ml sized ones which I used in the evening (glow tonic) and in the morning (rose tonic) for a more gentle cleanse. I have seen a dramatic change in my skin since using these products and I will purchase them again but in the bigger bottle’s next time so they last a little longer.

No7 beautiful skin hot cloth cleanser is something my mam has had lying around her room since christmas and I asked her if I could nab it. It is quite a nice cleanser and feels thick and creamy in texture and applies well. I didn’t actually use this as the way it is intended when you pop a hot cloth over your face and relax long enough for your pores to open (I’m a busy working full-time mother when am I meant to find the time for that?) but I did enjoy using it as a second cleanser once my make up was removed on a night. Yes I would purchase this but to be honest I might just hold out until Christmas to receive it in a No7 gift set.

Lush’s Jelly face masks! I have done individual reviews of these in the past (remember my face mask friday series?) which I will link if you want further info. I quite like these jelly mask’s if truth be told, and although I am not keen on 1000 millihelens  I would buy Bunny moon and The Birth of Venus again.

Lastly for skin care is the Charlotte Tilbury Magic cream moisturizer. My god this stuff is amazing! My skin felt firmer and softer and looked more plump and healthy when I was using this tiny little sample pot as a night cream. It also smelt wonderful and relaxing compared to other moisturizers which can smell a little chemical. However, as much as I would LOVE to purchase the full size of this product and add it into my face care routine I can not justify spending £70 on a 50ml jar, so unfortunately it is a no from me.

Hair Care

Tiny little hair care section here as I am always swapping and changing my hair care products so I never actually end up with many empties. The Banana body shop hair mask though is a product I would buy again for the smell alone! This product smelt like banana milkshake and felt very creamy in texture when I was applying it to my hair and it left my hair feeling replenished and rehydrated (aka my hair looked less like that of a witch who lives alone in the woods without a hairbrush).

The Batiste Dry Shampoo in cherry is one I am hit and miss with. I probably will buy this again out of convenience however I much prefer the Lush dry shampoo and I think I will continue to invest in that instead of this product.

Shower / Bath

Good god there is probably a few bath bombs and bubble bars here that I have used over the past few months but have no evidence or memory of what they were. One lot that I have photos of so I will mention is the new Lush shower bombs. I purchased one of each of these to try them out as I was quite excited to how they would perform in the shower, especially as an alternative to shower gel. However, I was highly disappointed in every one of these products from how they crumbled upon removing them from their box to how badly they performed in the shower. Big N-O from me.

Snow Fairy Body conditioner is not a product I was rushing to use but seeing as Lush’s Christmas products are now available I thought it was about time I used up last years stash. Surprisingly I really liked the scent of this after years of disliking most of the snow fairy products in general and as a body conditioner it meant I applied it in the shower, washed it off and wallah no need to moisturize as I already had done so. Yes I will buy this again but probably in a bigger tub this year.

Rub Rub Rub Shower scrub is up there as one of my favourite lush products so it is a no brainer that I will buy this again. I think I will buy another 665g tub as it has lasted me a lot longer than the traditional 250ish gram tub and I full recommend you try it for yourself as it is a gentle body scrub that leaves you feeling wonderfully clean.

Make up

This should be named make up that made it into the empties pile and not straight into the trash can. Foundation wise I have both Bobby Brown’s skin long-wear weightless foundation and MACs pro-longwear nourishing waterproof foundation. Both excellent foundations however due to both companies testing their products on animals I will not be buying these foundation again now that they are empty.

There is also an Urban Decay Naked skin weightless complete coverage concealer here which is a decent concealer but I am currently using the Kat Von D concealer and I will admit I am way preferring that one for how well it sits on my skin, so this is an unsure if I will buy it again or not product right now.

Urban Decay Perversion waterproof fine point eye pen (not pictured) is another product I used up this season but it ended up straight in the bin. As good as this was for applying my winged eyeliner I wasn’t impressed with the quality of the pen tip from the start. Again I am currently using the Kat Von D Tattoo liner so I will see how well that works and if it outperforms this eyeliner then I won’t be changing back.

A Lush Halloween: Twilight Zone

Monsters Ball Bath Bomb

Last nights bath consisted of this adorable little cyclops monster who goes by the name of Monsters Ball. This bath bomb is back for a second year running and I have read wonderful reviews about how beautiful this bath bomb is, as well as how it is another product that is part of the Calacas scent family.

Upon hitting the water Monsters Ball instantly give off a striking display as the pastel pink ball rolled around the bath, before the royal blue innards begin to ooze from its core. This was an eye-catching colour contrast upon the water, yet I felt as if it created bath art similar to that of Lord of Misrule but in a weaker form, and unfortunately for me this bath bomb wasnt as spectacular as some of the other bath bombs from the Halloween collection.

I will however say that once the royal blue and pastel pink colours mix together within the water, they create this deep majestic purple colouring which is similar to the Twilight shower gel. The amount of lustre contained within this bath bomb is mesmerizing and I found myself at times hypnotised by the glitter dancing around within the violet-coloured water. Also, the eye of Monsters Ball bath bomb, which consisted of cocoa butter, had melted from the heat and had released an oil into the bath water. This oil had left a white film over the top of the water which had formed into various swirls and shapes. It wasnt until I looked back at the photos after I had left the bath that I noticed a lot of  these shapes resembled ghost like figures. This made this bath experience even more spooky and memorable.

Despite being fond of the Calacas fragrance from this bath bomb which admittedly did cling to my skin for a few hours, I can’t deny the fact that I personally found it a little weak in comparison to the Man on the Moon bubble bar. Also, despite the cocoa butter eye which is supposed to have moisturizing properties, I personally found that my skin felt very dry as well as tight after using this product.

So, crunch time. Would I buy Monsters Ball bath bomb again? I’m not actually sure. As hypnotizing and mesmerizing as the glitter laced bath water was, the fragrance was very faint in comparison to other products within the same scent family. That added with the fact that my skin didn’t feel moisturized after leaving the bath makes me feel as if this product isn’t suited to my skin needs. I would however suggest you try this bath bomb out so you can come to your own decision about this product, but it will not be a product I will be openly suggesting or pushing my friends and family into buying (like I do with ectoplasm jelly bomb).
